BC Building Permit Hub
The City of North Vancouver is the first pilot tool team member to go live in the new BC Building Permit Hub portal! They were also one of the first municipalities to shift to digital submissions at the start of COVID, so certainly proving to be an agile AHJ!
Looking forward to seeing how this works, and if it can be a useful tool to shorten permit approval times in other AHJs.
Fire at Lithium Battery Factory in South Korea
Sadly, there's always an event that changes the visibility of emerging fire risks. This is probably one of those.
"Last month, NFPA announced that it was considering the development of NFPA 800, Battery Safety Code, to provide uniform minimum requirements to address the fire, electrical, and life safety hazards created by batteries in all forms and through the entire lifecycle of a battery, from production to disposal."
Yeah, seems like maybe that would be a good idea.

Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ Cost Comparison Feasibility Study
With all the accessibility and adaptability changes coming down the building code pipeline, we hear a distant mumbling of 'Sure, we'll build it, but what will it cost?'
Luckily, our friends over at hcma have done some homework on this! We hope that hcma, always champions of accessibility, will update this to the new codes! This feasibility study is from back in 2020, and is specifically related to the cost difference to achieve Rick Hansen Foundation Certification compared to the minimum code requirements. Have a look - is it more or less than you'd guessed?
